Spiders are running one of the largest predation operations on the planet
Spiders are running one of the largest predation operations on the planet. Every year, the world’s spiders kill somewhere between 400 and 800 million tonnes of prey. The low end matches everything the entire human species eats in meat and fish. The high end roughly doubles it. There are more than 45,000 known spider species, and in some places they reach a thousand individuals per square metre.
